Being no stranger to all things motorsports, including rally racing, Mitsubishi has revealed its entry into this year’s Pikes Peak International hillclimb race.
Known as the MiEV Evolution III, Mitsubishi will field two of its all-electric racecars in the Electric Modified class reserved for purpose-built, purely electric racers.
“Pikes Peak is an excellent laboratory for testing our advanced MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) technology,” Don Swearingen, Mitsubishi North America’s executive vice president, said in a release. “It not only features high elevations but also a range of weather conditions to challenge the performance and reliability of our technology”
Output from the MiEV Evolution’s electric powertrain has been bumped up to 603 horsepower, up 40 compared to last year’s racer. Mitsubishi has included a number of additional tweaks, including a lighter chassis with lighter materials, revised bodywork for improved downforce and an all-wheel-drive system tuned for improved handling and traction.
Hiroshi Masuoka and Greg Tracy will be returning as Mitsubishi’s drivers for this year’s Pikes Peak, which takes place in Colorado Springs, Colo., on June 29.
