Porsche is arguably best-known for its flat-six engines, but a new report details the German automaker’s future turbocharged flat-four engines.

According to Car Magazine UK, the new engines are aimed at reducing emissions and improving fuel economy while maintaining a link to Porsche’s trademark engine configurations.

The smallest engine will displace 1.6-litres and is expected to pump out 210 horsepower, but it’s said it will likely end up in a Volkswagen or an Audi. Originally, the engine was said to be conceived for a roadster slotting below the Boxster, but the future of that particular model is uncertain.

Porsche’s four-cylinder engines will also reportedly be available in 2.0- and 2.5-litre flavours. The 2.0 is expected to pump out 286 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, while the 2.5-litre is said to be rated at an impressive 360 horsepower and 347 lb.-ft. of torque.
