Kia is considering expanding its production efforts to Mexico with a new assembly plant.

According to a Reuters report via Automotive News, sources within Kia say a new plant is in the company’s future in a bid to meet increased demand in the U.S. If all goes to plan, the plant will be built in Monterrey and will churn out about 300,000 vehicles per year.

This news comes two years after Chung Mong-koo, Hyundai and Kia’s chairman, essentially limited boosting production capacity over quality issues that could’ve emerged. Currently, Kia has one factory in Georgia, where it builds the Optima and Sorento, as well as the Hyundai Santa Fe. That plant, along with Hyundai’s factory in Alabama, are both operating at full capacity.
