Following a seemingly endless array of rumours, McLaren has finally confirmed a P1 GTR is on the way.
With a name harkening back to its predecessor more than two decades ago, McLaren says production of the P1 GTR will be limited, although it didn’t say exactly how many units it will build. Suffice it to say, it will probably be far less than the 375 road-going P1s that have been built (and sold).
McLaren says the P1 GTR is being conceived as the “best drivers’ car in the world on track.” That’s a pretty lofty claim in and of itself, but the automaker is promising much improved levels of aerodynamics, grip, downforce and all-around performance. The P1 GTR will also see a power increase to 1,000 PS, or 986 brake horsepower, as well as a wider track, racing tires and much more aggressive styling, as teased in the company’s sketch.
If you can afford the £1.98 million price tag McLaren will charge for the car, and because it’s far too easy to bite off more than you can chew with a car like this, McLaren will also give customers access to driver training programs. That includes access to a simulator, the ability to participate in six racing events taking place on Formula One tracks across the globe, and even exclusive consultations with the company’s driver fitness program.
Now that is customer service.
