Last week, Ford tuner Steeda Autosports said the upcoming Mustang will be anywhere between 200 to 300 pounds heavier than the outgoing model. As it turns out, that might not be the case.
According to Jalopnik, a reader who works at a Florida dealership sent in the Mustang’s source book, showing the Mustand did in fact gain weight across the board, but it’s less than 100 pounds depending on the trim level.
If the data turns out to be legitimate, the V6 powered Mustang with the six-speed manual transmission weighs 3,526 lbs and 3,529 with the automatic. The convertible, on the other hand, is 3,644 lbs with the manual and 3,654 with the automatic.
The lightest of the bunch is the Mustang EcoBoost Fastback, which tips the scales at 3,517 lbs with the manual, while the Mustang GT convertible is the heaviest, weighing in at 3,852 with the automatic transmission.
The outgoing Mustang is far from being considered a lightweight sports car, but if these figures hold true, then the 2015 model should be a marked improvement, especially considering the independent rear suspension configuration. And if that’s not all, you can now configure a 2015 Mustang to your heart’s content on Ford’s U.S. website.
