Hot on the heels of the face-melting Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, a new report suggests Chrysler’s supercharged 6.2-litre V8 could find its way into the next Charger SRT.
As part of its five-year business plan, Automotive News (hat tip to Jalopnik) says the Hellcat V8 is expected to migrate to the four-door Charger SRT. Not only that, looking back at slides from Chrysler’s original presentation seems to suggest the same tidbit of news.
Exact specifications haven’t been unveiled just yet, but Chrysler says the Hellcat is the most powerful eight-cylinder engine it has ever produced. And for a good reason — at this point, Chrysler says the engine is good for “more than” 600 horsepower. To put that into perspective, the normally-aspirated V10 in the SRT Viper pumps out 640 horsepower.
If the news holds true, and we certainly hope it does, this means the Dodge Charger SRT could be more powerful than the likes of the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, let alone the Cadillac CTS-V and the U.S.-only Chevrolet SS. But horsepower isn’t everything, right?
