The next-generation Ferrari California is rumoured to gain a set of turbochargers when the next generation rolls out, making it the first road-going Ferrari since the 1987 F40 to feature forced-induction.
Speaking to Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa in an interview, Motor Trend reports the new twin-turbocharged V8 will be mechanically similar to Maserati‘s twin-turbo V8, but it will boast mostly components manufactured by Ferrari. Maserati’s 3.8-litre V8 pumps out 523 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque, already trumping the California’s current 4.3-litre V8 and its 483 horsepower and 372 lb.-ft. of torque.
Motor Trend also suggests the upcoming California will be more than just an engine, bringing along new sheet metal and a revised interior. The new California could debut as early as the Geneva Motor Show next March, with sales following by the end of 2014.
