Bertone, the manufacturer of some of the world’s most stunning coach-built cars, could be facing bankruptcy.

The automaker is operating at a loss after struggling to receive orders, according to Italian newspaper la Repubblica Torino (hat tip to AutoGuide). Moreover, its sub-division dedicated to custom, one-off cars is seeing little success.

Most recently, the coachbuilder unveiled the Bertone Jet 2+2, a shooting-brake variant of the Aston Martin Rapide, at last year’s Geneva Motor Show. La Repubblica Torino reports Bertone let go 10 of its interns, as well as having laid off 165 employees.

According to reports out of Italy via AutoGuide, eight potential buyers are interested in the company, including one Turkish firm looking to buy Bertone for roughly $2.7 million.
