We’ve all seen those terminally sad commercials where a celebrity pleads with viewers to donate or adopt sad unwanted puppies. Well Motor Authority saw fit to make a video campaigning to save the manual transmission using much the same technique.
Amazing Grace plays softly over slow pans of gear shifters and we get to see how a poor stick shift BMW M5 changed a man’s life. It’s exactly as cheesy as you think and funnier than you could imagine. Seeing as only 3.9% of cars sold in 2013 were equipped with a clutch pedal, it’s a very worthy cause. Though modern automatics are faster and sometimes more efficient, we urge you to do as the ad says and “give a shift” about manual transmissions.
