Chrysler has officially announced a pair of utterly bonkers output figures for the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
Powered by a massive 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine, the Challenger SRT Hellcat will pump out — you’ll probably need to be seated for this. OK, ready? — 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. That means the Challenger SRT Hellcat is the most powerful vehicle in Chrysler’s lineup, beating the Viper’s 8.4-litre V10 and its 640 horsepower by a healthy margin.
Not only does it beat the Viper, Chrysler also points out the Challenger SRT Hellcat is more powerful than the Lamborghini Avendator, but as we all know, horsepower isn’t everything. To avoid others from potentially biting off more than they can chew, Chrysler is also offering two key fobs with the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat — a black one that limits output to 500 horsepower, and a red one that unlocks the car’s full potential.
The Challenger SRT Hellcat’s official power output numbers puts it squarely atop today’s Pony Car trio. For comparison’s sake, the Shelby GT500 is rated at 662 horsepower, while the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is good for 580 horsepower.
