Two strange and crafty Canadians have converted a classic 1969 Cadillac DeVille into the world’s fastest hot tub, a contraption they cheekily named Carpool DeVille.

After 15 years of planning, the Carpool DeVille is finally ready to make its big, um, splash. The rear-wheel-drive Caddy is powered by a 7.7-litre V8 that helps keep the water in the pool at a Caribbean-like 38 degrees. The car/pool is fully drivable and has a fully operational hot tub complete with water jets inside.

The team, two engineers who graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont., is trying to raise enough money via Kickstarter to bring the Carpool DeVille to Bonneville Speed Week in Utah in August to set the world record for the world’s fastest hot tub. At the time of writing, they had just $4,736 out of the $10,000 they need to get the boat car to Utah.

“If everyone who watched the video pledged just ONE LOUSY BUCK – We’d already be funded!” the team pleads on its Kickstarter page. Check out their page to see the inspiration behind the Carpool and all the work that went into it. The page also has many photos detailing all the work they did.

Check out the video below. It’s also not too late to contribute to their Kickstarter, which closes July 11:
