Ford officially announces 2015 Mustang power specs

After a slow yet steady trickle of information since its debut in December, Ford has finally announced official horsepower and torque ratings for the 2015 Mustang.

The outgoing Mustang, powered by the base 3.7-litre V6, sees a slight drop to 300 horsepower from the outgoing 305, although torque remains at 280 lb.-ft. Opt for the mid-range Mustang EcoBoost and that gets you an impressive 310 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft of torque from a turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder on 93-octane gasoline.

The tried-and-true Mustang GT, the range-topping model until we inevitably see a Shelby-tuned version, pumps out 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque from its normally-aspirated V8. For those who are counting — and Mustang purists likely are — that’s a boost of 15 horsepower and 10 lb.-ft. from the outgoing pony car.

Pricing hasn’t been confirmed just yet for the EcoBoost and GT trim levels, but the base Mustang V6 will start at $24,425 south of the border. Production of the 2015 Mustang already kicked off earlier this week.
