Kia unveiled an updated version of its popular Sorento SUV that features a bolder, more streamlined look.

The new Sorento is lower, but longer and wider than its predecessor and features an extended wheelbase. The length grows 95 mm to 4,780 mm, the SUV is 15 mm lower and the wheelbase is 80 mm longer, bringing it to 2,780 mm. Kia promises this increase in dimensions will give passengers in all three rows more room.

Highlighting the exterior updates is a bolder new grille, which is bigger, more rectangular and more upright than the one it replaces. The headlights are also all new and add to the Sorento’s more squared-off and rugged look. The beltline is also higher and the SUV gets more muscular front end.

The current Sorento is powered by a gas-powered 2.4L four-cylinder or a 3.3L V6. Front-wheel-drive is standard and AWD is optional. A six-speed automatic is the only transmission option. We’re hoping for a diesel option in the upcoming model and standard AWD.

The updated SUV will make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. It will also be shown in South Korea later this month. We don’t expect many changes in the powertrain department, but more details will be available close to launch.
