Slotting below the exceptionally hot 650S GT3, McLaren has unveiled another track-prepped version of its “affordable” road car.

Known as the 650S Sprint, McLaren promises to “deliver a more engaging GT racing experience without losing any of the refinement and balance found in the road car” when it makes its debut later this week at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The 650S Sprint is powered by the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 as the road-going 650S, but McLaren says the engine and transmission have been recalibrated to “further enhance on-track driveability and driver engagement.”

Other track-ready bits include a tweaked version of the 650S’ Brake Steer system, a dedicated racing setup for the car’s ProActive Chassis Control and revised aerodynamics. Think of it as the racer that bridges the gap between the 650S and the radical 650S GT3.

The 650S Sprint will be joined by a handful of other McLaren models, including the highly-anticipated P1 GTR, when this year’s Concours d’Elegance kicks off this weekend.
