Land Rover has issued a recall covering 40,551 examples of the LR2 and Range Rover Evoque in the U.S. over an airbag issue.
According to Automotive News, documents filed with the U.S. NHTSA show the front passenger airbag might not deploy in the Land Rovers affected by the recall. A part in the occupant classification system located in the electronic control unit might fail, and as a result, partially or completely disable the passenger-side airbag.
Exactly 17,066 LR2s from 2010 to 2015, as well as 23,845 Range Rover Evoques from the 2012 and 2013 model years are affected. At this point, it’s unclear whether or not this recall expands to other markets outside of the U.S., but the NHTSA says no accidents or injuries have resulted from the hiccup.
Dealers will reportedly begin fixing the affected SUVs at the end of this month with a software update to the airbag’s restraint control module.
