Over the last few months, rumours have begun swirling over Ford offering a successor to the high-performance Focus RS based on the current model.
Now, according to Road and Track, it’s inching closer to reality — and it’s becoming increasingly possible that we’ll see it in North America, albeit as a limited-production model.
Speaking to an unnamed source within Ford, Road and Track says the Focus RS still faces a handful of roadblocks before its green-lit, but it’s nonetheless very likely we’ll see it offered in some form.
Road and Track‘s source also dished some details in regards to the Focus RS’ powertrain — while the previous model had its front wheels powered by a 305-horsepower inline five-cylinder engine, the upcoming RS could see the Mustang’s 2.3-litre turbo-four.
An exact figure hasn’t been finalized in the Ford boardrooms, but horsepower is expected to punch in above the Mustang’s 310. And unlike its front-wheel-drive predecessor, the next Focus RS will likely employ a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system.
