The Weather Network may be promising “high” temperatures well into the negative teens and wind chills in the minus 20s, but that doesn’t mean us Canadians can’t handle this nippy weather.

“Bring it on,” we say as we bundle up. “We can take the cold, just like Canadian Tire’s pickup truck made of ice.”

That’s right. Canadian Tire wants to show you that its latest battery can handle temperatures up to -40 degrees Celsius. To do so, it teamed up with Iceculture, based out of Hensall, Ont. They took 11,000 lbs of ice, sculpted it and placed it over a real truck chassis. The end result is a big block of ice that looks like a little like a Chevy Silverado. It’s not very fast, averaging about 20 km/h, but it’s fully functional.

Canadian Tire has a handful of videos of the ice pickup truck, including the original commercial, driving footage and of the entire truck melting away, but to see how the team did it, check out the video below.
