Toyota issues recall for 20,000 vehicles for possible fire risk

Toyota is recalling roughly 20,000 vehicles across the globe over a potential fire hazard.

The recall covers vehicles powered by the company’s 3.5-litre V6 engine, also known as the 2GR-FE. Affected models incluide the 2015 Lexus RX, as well as the 2014 Toyota Avalon, Camry, Highlander and Sienna.

According to Automotive News, the issue revolves around a fuel delivery pipe in the engine bay may leak due to an incorrect weld by one of Toyota’s parts supplier companies. As a result, the pipe could leak and increase the risk of a fire.

Toyota said the models affected by the recall were manufactured in North America and were shipped across the globe, including Australia, South Korea and Russia, as well as other parts of Asia and the Middle East.

No fires, injuries or fatalities have been reported thus far. Toyota says its dealers will inspect the fuel delivery pipe. If it’s the same one produced and installed by Toyota’s one particular supplier in question, it will replace the part for free.
