Hot on the heels of the flagship Mercedes-AMG GT, the German automaker has officially taken the wraps off the next-generation C63 AMG.
According to Autocar UK, it is now known as the Mercedes-AMG C63 and, holding true to the rumors, has dropped its normally aspirated V8. The C63 is now powered by the company’s new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, although two models will be available.
The standard C63 is rated at 469 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque, while a more powerful C63 S will be available, pumping out 503 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque. Despite all that added power, Mercedes says the 2015 C63 uses 32 per cent less fuel than the outgoing model.
Even in base form, those figures put the Mercedes-AMG C63 comfortably ahead of the BMW M3 and M4 twins, as well as the new Lexus RC F coupe. Mercedes says the C63 can sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds before topping out at 155 miles per hour, while the C63 S completes the run in four seconds flat.
The Mercedes-AMG C63 still sends its kick to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In addition, it comes standard with adaptive dampers with three pre-configured settings and a gadget called AMG Dynamic Select, which lets drivers choose between up to five distinct drive modes — Individual, Comfort, Sport, Sport + and, exclusive to the C63 S, Race. Uprated brakes are also part of the AMG kit, complete with 390-millimetre discs up front and 360-mm discs out back. Of course, carbon-ceramic brakes are optional.
Expect to catch a glimpse of the 2015 C63 alongside the Mercedes-AMG GT at this year’s Paris Motor Show, which kicks off on Oct. 2.
