Rumours have begun spreading once again over what we can expect in the next-generation Nissan GT-R.
It’s no secret Nissan has been considering a hybrid powertrain, and with the company’s upcoming LMP1-class entry in the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, that technology has an opportunity to shine and work out the kinks before possibly finding its way into the R36-generation GT-R.
According to a report from Motor Trend, the next GT-R will be inspired by Nissan’s Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, but obviously toned down from its appearance in the Gran Turismo virtual world. The hybrid powertrain in question is expected to combine the existing 3.8-litre V6 with an electric motor, supposedly putting total output to 784 horsepower and 737 lb.-ft. of torque.
A new transmission is also expected, likely with eight gears, given that Motor Trend’s unnamed source within Nissan says the existing gearbox can’t take the additional power. That being said, until we see how Nissan performs in next year’s Le Mans and, more importantly, a more concrete word out of the company, these rumours are best taken with a grain of salt.
