Since 1942, no vehicle has resisted change quite as well as the Jeep Wrangler. But that might be changing. According to this report from Automotive News, aluminum construction, unibody frames and turbocharged engines are all being considered as possibilities for the new 2017 Jeep Wrangler.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne said that if the Wrangler switches to aluminum construction, building them at the Toledo plant where Wranglers have been built for decades would be “so outrageously expensive that it would be impossible to try and work out of that facility.” He also states that “if the solution is aluminum, then I think unfortunately that Toledo is the wrong place”.
