In a push to expand its green-car lineup, GM is reportedly working on another electric vehicle.
According to Automotive News, Mark Reuss, GM’s global product chief, confirmed the news last week during a shareholder presentation. Although Reuss didn’t confirm what the car will be, it is said we’ll likely see an electrified version of the Sonic debut sometime in 2017 and with a range of about 200 miles.
The formula is similar to the Spark EV, a fully electric version of the automaker’s city car that is only sold in two states south of the border — California and Oregon — even as “people wish we would sell it around the country,” according to Reuss. The Spark EV is available in Canada, but as a fleet-only model.
In addition to the new model in question, Chevrolet is expected to launch the next-generation Volt sometime in 2015 as a 2016 model.
