With the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge and the Nissan ‘Sport Sedan Concept’ set to debut at the Detroit auto show, Nissan seems to be making a bigger push towards its performance models.
Adding fuel to the fire is a recent report out of 4 Wheels News, suggesting that Nissan is working on a bigger North American push towards its in-house NISMO tuning division. In Japan, NISMO is wildly successful, but the scope in North America is limited to Nissan’s two main performance cars, the 370Z and the GT-R.
Part of Nissan’s plan includes holding events for dealers to view cars wearing NISMO parts and giving dealers a dedicated NISMO boutique on the showroom floor in a bid to drum up support. Currently, it’s difficult and pricey for dealers to order NISMO parts, but Nissan is looking to improve that by introducing a new parts marketing system and a simpler ordering process.
In addition to cosmetic parts like aero kits, shift knobs and floor mats, Nissan hopes to expand NISMO with greasy bits like suspension kits, brake upgrades, new exhaust systems and the like.
