Lexus is taking aim at BMW‘s M and Mercedes‘ AMG divisions with the all-new RC F Coupe, set to be revealed at the Detroit auto show next week.
The RC F, which just leaked via Road and Track, joins the IS F and the LFA as the third model to be developed by Lexus’ in-house performance division. Lexus hasn’t revealed official numbers on the RC F just yet, but given the rumours floating around suggest it might be powered by a V8 carried over from the IS F and massaged to pump out 460 horsepower.
If the rumours hold true, that marks a 40 horsepower improvement over the IS F’s 420 hp. It’s also more than likely the RC F will feed its rear wheels with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, also borrowed from the IS F. Visually, the RC F doesn’t stray far from Lexus’ new design language. The abundace of creases, flares and edges actually work very well together to give the car a decidedly muscular look.
The sculpted hood sits a little taller to give the V8 enough room, while the rest of the car retains a few cues from the IS F, including the slits behind the rear wheels and the stacked exhaust tips. The RC F also gains a rear spoiler that deploys according to the car’s speed, much like the LFA. Check back in a week, when we’ll be bringing you the latest goings-on from the floor of the Detroit auto show, including the Lexus RC F.
