Mercedes-Benz has announced a new racing series dedicated to the new AMG GT sports car.
According to MotorAuthority, Mercedes-AMG replace the current SLS AMG GT3 in 2016 with a new rece car based on the GT. Avoiding a repetitive mix of alphabet soup, the new racer will be known just as the GT3. Testing will begin next year, and we can even expect to see a road-going version of the race car.

In light of this, Mercedes-Benz isn’t pulling the plug on the SLS AMG GT3 just yet. Considering 40 teams use the car, Mercedes will continue offering the SLS for another season and spare parts will still be available after the launch of the GT3.
Along with the AMG GT-based racer, Mercedes-Benz announced a new racing series of its own based on — you guessed it — the SLS AMG GT3. Known as the AMG Customer Sports Championship, the one-make series will launch on Dec. 1 and run for one year until Nov. 30, 2015.
