CEO Johan de Nysschen is dropping more hints over Cadillac’s future, promising more high-performance SUVs, diesel engines and even a new sports car.
De Nysschen took Cadillac’s top job earlier this year. Since then, he moved the brand’s headquarters from Detroit to New York City, as well as promising to rename its vehicles to CT followed by a numerical suffix.
Now, thanks to our friends at Car and Driver (hat tip to MotorAuthority), we’re getting a hint of what else we can expect from Cadillac in the next few years. In addition to a replacement for the SRX crossover and the flagship CT6 sedan, we can expect a replacement for the ELR and not one, but two other flagship models positioned above the CT6 in the lineup.
On top of that, we could see a diesel engine offered in some models when 2019 rolls around, a move de Nysschen says is crucial to expand the brand outside of North America — specifically Europe. We could also see up to “five or six” more additions to the high-performance V-Series, including one SUV.
Most importantly, de Nysschen also wants a dedicated sports car aimed at the likes of the Audi R8, Mercedes-AMG GT and Porsche 911. It’s not out of the question, but de Nysschen says such a car will be quite a long way’s off — try a decade or two.
