It’s well known that Jay Leno loves odd cars. Classic 1957 Chevy sedans and 1955 Ford T-Birds are becoming almost common at car shows, according to Jay, but we doubt you’ll ever see two 1950 Nash Ambassadors at a car meet! This giant green slab of art-deco styling features a robust straight-six engine that can easily run for over 100,000 miles.
A convenient but controversial feature of the Ambassador is the seats that fold completely flat to make a rather large bed. It’s equally handy for the travelling salesman on the road as well as the teenaged couple at the drive-in. Astute fathers soon learned to be wary when their daughter’s boyfriends drove these.
Though Leno’s Nash looks restored, its impressive condition is assumed to be all original. California is certainly kinder to cars than Canadian winters. While a pristine survivor like Leno’s car won’t be cheap, you can easily find these “bathtub” Nashes for less than $8,000 and they make great cruisers.
