Ford ‘working very hard’ on a possible hybrid F-150 pickup

Low gas prices could curb the demand for more fuel-efficient trucks and cars, Ford development chief Raj Nair told the Detroit Free Press.

Although Nair admits that the automaker is “working very hard” on a hybrid system for the popular F-150 pickup truck or even a diesel, he says that lower gas prices make both options “a tough go” because it will affect consumer demand for higher fuel efficiency.

Ford recently released its fuel economy figures for its new F-150, and it claims to boast the best ratings for a gas-powered truck in its segment. The only full-sized truck that gets better fuel ratings is the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, but the diesel engine costs more upfront to own.
