The Volkswagen Beetle Dune concept will be joining the Passat BlueMotion and 2015 Golf R at this year’s Detroit auto show.
Based on the sketch, the Beetle Dune is essentially a present-day version of VW’s classc Dune Buggy and the original Beetle Dune concept from 2000. It rides higher than the standard Beetle and wears a set of side sills, new bumpers and flared body cladding on the fenders. The Beetle Dune is fitted for off-road duty on the inside just as much as the outside, complete with yellow accents and a handle bar instead of a glove box for the passenger.
It is powered by Volkswagen’s ubiquitous turbocharged four-cylinder engine, pumping out 207 horsepower and mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. For now, Volkswagen says it’s keeping the Beetle Dune as an eye-candy concept, much like the positively insane Design Vision GTI.
