This time of year, everyone talks about the Detroit auto show. Cross the Pacific ocean and all the buzz is about the Tokyo Auto Salon.

A haven for all things aftermarket, the Tokyo Auto Salon is not unlike a Japanese version of SEMA. It’s a way for Japanese tuners to showcase their latest designs and future products.

Some cars were tasteful, like the Wald Japan’s Audi A7, while cars like the Lightning NATSeen and a 1994 Toyota Hiace loosely styled like a Batmobile are downright crazy. There was also a healthy dosage of race cars, including the Honda NSX-GT, Lexus Racing’s RC Coupe and the Subaru BRZ GT300, all of which will are destined to compete in the various classes in Japan’s Super GT series.

All told, some 800 cars from 400 automakers and aftermarket companies aftermarket strutted their stuff in Tokyo over the course of three days.
