Although the Acura NSX dominated Honda’s buzz in Detroit, the Japanese automaker recently made a smaller yet equally important announcement — it will introduce a new family of turbocharged VTEC engines this year.
Honda has remained tight-lipped over nitty-gritty horsepower, torque and displacement specs, but it did promise the new four-cylinder engines will emphasize fun-to-drive performance (and fuel efficiency, of course) in a press release.
Production will begin later this year at Honda’s Anna, Ohio plant following a US$340 million investment. We’ll see the new turbo-four VTEC engines appear in cars by the end of this year, but Honda hasn’t dished any details over which models will receive these new engines. Our fingers are still crossed for a turbocharged Civic.
