Mazda has remained tight-lipped on the rest of the 2016 MX-5 Miata’s powertrain details, but a new leak online might just have revealed how much horsepower we can expect.
Although it has since been edited, a page on the Chicago Auto Show’s official website says the 2016 MX-5 will produce 155 horsepower from its 2.0-litre SkyActiv four-cylinder engine. However, according to Autoblog, Mazda “isn’t sure where they got that number.”
Whether or not the figure is accurate, the purported figure seems to echo previous reports suggesting the 2016 MX-5 will use the same 2.0-litre SkyActiv four-cylinder in the Mazda3. In that application, the engine pumps out 155 horsepower and 150 lb.-ft. of torque, and would represent a 12-horsepower drop compared to the outgoing Miata.
Even if we see less power, expect performance to remain more or less on par, if not improved considering the upcoming Miata’s weight reduction.
