The Mercedes-AMG GT GT3 race car looks quite a bit like the production model but under the hood, things are very different.
According to AutoGuide, instead of using the GT’s 4 litre twin-turbo V8, Mercedes has chosen to retain the 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V8 from the SLS GT3.
Mercedes cites high-revving ability, long maintenance intervals and proven reliability as reasons to retain the older engine. The 6.3L V8 produced 548 horsepower in the SLS race car and it will likely produce that much or more in the GT race car.
The car will be officially debuted at the upcoming 2015 Geneva auto show.
