The 2014 Mazda3 racked up yet another award at this year’s Montreal auto show, taking home the Canadian Automotive Jury’s ‘Best of the Best’ award.

11 other cars were in the running for the CAJ’s top honours, including the the Corvette Stingray, Jaguar F-Type and the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid, in addition to last year’s winner — the Cadillac ATS. The CAJ’s two other finalists included the Corvette and the F-type.

The CAJ appraises its contenders based on factors like exterior and interior styling, performance and fuel economy, as well as a handful of other factors. Another major factor is market significance, which is basically how the car will shape the segment it competes in. The CAJ calls the Mazda3 “a standout in the compact car segment in terms of fit, finish and technology.”
