Ford has remained tight-lipped on the exact amount of kick we can expect from the upcoming Focus RS, but a new leak suggests it will pack a hefty punch.
According to AutoGuide, Ford Ireland’s website posted the figure – 345 horsepower – in a special section on its website dedicated to the Geneva Motor Show.
The Focus RS shares its 2.3-litre turbo-four with the Mustang EcoBoost, rated at 315 horsepower. Coupled with the fact that Ford says the RS produces “in excess” of 315 and Mercedes-Benz can squeeze out 345 horsepower out of the A, CLA and GLA 45 AMG’s 2.0-litre turbo-four, Ford’s magic number doesn’t seem all that unrealistic.
Of course, Ford hasn’t confirmed the number. Spokesman Alan Miller told AutoGuide the Focus RS is still in the testing phases, and thus a final number will be detailed closer to launch. But if the leak holds true, that should put the Focus RS well ahead of its two main rivals — the 290-horsepower Volkswagen Golf R and 305-horsepower Subaru WRX STI.
