Toyota is calling back some 112,000 vehicles in two separate recalls.

The first recall is centred around 2,500 copies of the RAV4 EV, a model built with components manufactured by Tesla. Toyota says a software flaw in the RAV4’s propulsion system could cause it to unexpectedly shift into neutral, resulting in a complete loss of driving power and increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota’s solution to the flaw, which would alert drivers by illuminating a “check EV system” warning light on the dashboard, is to repair the RAV4’s traction motor at no extra charge.

A power steering issue is the subject of Toyota’s second recall, which affects the Camry and Highlander (including their respective hybrid variants), along with the RAV4.

In those 110,000 vehicles affected, a circuit board could’ve been damaged in the manufacturing process and result in a loss of power steering. Toyota will inspect steering column assemblies and if necessary, replace the defective circuit board.

No injuries or fatalities have been reported in both of Toyota’s latest recalls.
