Following the debut of the 2015 Genesis sedan, rumours have it Hyundai is considering offering a performance-oriented version of its luxury sedan after it hits dealers this spring.

The latest Genesis made its North American debut earlier this week at the Detroit auto show. Headlining the changes was Hyundai’s new eight-speed automatic transmission and HTRAC all-wheel-drive system, which electronically splits its torque 40:60 front-to-rear. It can also transfer 100% of its kick to the rear wheels in the name of “fuel economy”, and up to 90% of power to the front axle in low-traction situations.

According to AutoGuide, the 2015 Genesis might also see a performance model based on the range-topping 5.0-litre V8 model. There’s no word yet on what sort of additions the so-called performance oriented model would see, but spokesman Miles Johnson says Hyundai execs think there is a market for it even if they haven’t green-lit the car just yet.
