Mercedes-Benz could expand its North American lineup with a pickup as early as 2020.
Speaking to Automotive News, Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Steve Cannon says he is “open” to the idea and is looking to “assess the market” in a bid to convince Mercedes-Benz to green-light the pickup for North America.
The pickup was recently announced as a commercial vehicle for the Australian, European, Latin American and South African markets and will be introduced within five years. But if the pickup is sold in North America, it will be a niche model and positioned as a luxury passenger vehicle.
Canon says we can expect a decision out of Mercedes-Benz by the end of 2015.
