Mercedes-Benz has officially announced that its upcoming pickup will be built under a partnership with Nissan.
The partnership will not only result in a pickup truck for Mercedes-Benz, but also a new Nissan NP300 Navara. Both pickups will be sold in Australia, Europe, Latin America and South Africa, and will hit the market by 2020.
Both pickups will share a platform, but Daimler says the Mercedes-badged version will carry the same personality we’d expect from the company. Assembly will be taken care of by Nissan in Cordoba, Argentina for the Latin American market and Barcelona, Spain for Australia, Europe and South Africa.
Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Steve Cannon said there’s a chance the pickup would be sold in North America, but a final decision has been made. As for the Nissan variant, the Navara is closely related to the Frontier, so there’s a chance we’d see it one way or another.
