Shell is teaming up with McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray and engineer Osamu Goto to develop a unique city car that puts efficiency first.
It’s called the Project M, and Shell says it will “inspire thinking about maximizing personal mobility while minimizing energy use.” The car will be based around a simple internal combustion engine, with much of the focus going into streamlining, lightweight engineering and driveline efficiency.
Details on the project are still thin, but the promise of an efficient, global city car concept is definitely enticing. Shell will provide motor oil designed specifically for the car which will be integrated into the car’s design from the outset, lending to enhanced overall efficiency.
This isn’t the first time Shell worked with Murray and Goto – in 1988, the three parties collaborated on Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost’s Honda-powered Formula One cars.
After completing the first prototype, Shell will begin testing the car ahead of its debut set for this November
