Jay Leno is used to having old classic cars drop by the shop, but in this episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, he’s driving a car that’s brand new! This racy Scion FR-S was prepared by Keith Charvonia, who also built the achingly cool 1951 Kaiser custom. Keith has applied many of his old-school hot rod tricks to the FR-S to create a seriously unique car.
The car features flared fenders, an aggressive spoiler and rows of heat evacuating hood louvers. The stock FR-S engine has been boosted to 350 horsepower at the wheels (about 420 horsepower at the crank) with the addition of a Cosworth supercharger and large diameter single exhaust. The car is supposed to mimic the great IMSA race cars of the 1980s and the retro Toyota racing stripes are a nice touch.
