Volvo has taken the wraps off of the XC90’s range-topping trim level ahead of it’s official Shanghai Auto Show debut.
Billed as the most luxurious model Volvo has ever built, the XC90 Excellence is tailored to the Chinese market with only four seats, given the popularity of chauffeur services in the country.

The two rear bucket seats – with footrests – net the XC90 Excellence more legroom compared to the standard model. Not only can they recline, but are also heated and cooled, and come with a massage function. There’s also a standard partition between the first and second rows.
“This is our new flagship car,” Thomas Ingenlath, head of design at Volvo, said in a press release. “We have created the ultimate luxury experience of Scandinavian design. Volvo has never launched a car like this before. This is the car that demonstrates what the name ‘Volvo’ now means.”

Understandably, the luxury features don’t end there. A champagne cooler and crystal glassware are standard, along with two retractable touchscreens, folding tables and cupholders that can heat and cool drinks. And if that’s still not enough luxury, a 19-speaker sound system is optional.
Volvo hasn’t said how much all this will cost, but the Swedish automaker did say we can expect deliveries to begin this year – not just to China, but across the globe as well.
