Chevrolet will keep ‘Bolt’ nameplate for production version

Chevrolet will be keeping the ‘Bolt’ nameplate for the production-spec model.

That’s the latest word from USA Today, which spoke to Chevrolet marketing head Tim Mahoney. The decision comes after GM was in talks to rename the hatchback in an effort to reduce confusion between it and the Volt when they hit showrooms, but Mahoney says the move “can be an advantage” because of the almost immediate association of Bolt with Volt and Chevrolet.

Although their names sound similar, the Bolt will differ from the Volt with an all-electric powertrain under the skin. Revealed earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show, Chevrolet promises a 200-mile range and a base price of around $30,000 when the Bolt hits production in 2017.
