Honda hinted at where it might take the next-generation Civic at the New York Auto Show earlier this month, but there was a catch: it was just a concept.
But now, thanks to a handful of leaked patent drawings, we have our first look at what could be production versions of both the upcoming Civic coupe and sedan.
The images first appeared in Gizmag, showing a much more aggressive look overall that, surprisingly enough, resembles the concept in a few areas – including the tail lights and the fastback profile, which could translate to better practicality.
While we don’t know for sure if this is what the next-gen Civic will look like, we already have a good idea of what to expect under the hood. Honda says the Civic will be powered by a new family of turbocharged four-cylinder engines with VTEC, paired to either a manual transmission or a CVT.
Honda will also offer the uptuned Civic Si when the next-generation rolls around, as well as the Type R, a high-performance model previously exclusive to Europe. We’ll also see the hatchback body style return to North America when the redesigned Civic hits production.
