Audi and Amazon Prime are on the cusp of launching a new delivery service that guarantees you’ll always receive what you order online in time.
Teaming up with delivery service DHL, Audi says the new pilot project will kick off next month in Munich. All that’s required from owners is an approximate location of their car during the delivery period. In that time, the DHL driver will be given a one-time access code that opens just the trunk of the customer’s Audi.
“With comprehensive connectivity, we are transforming the car into a service device and integrating it even more closely into the everyday lives of our customers,” Luca de Meo, a member of Audi’s sales management team, said in a press release.
By using Audi’s connectivity service, the German automaker says the one-time access code expires as soon as the DHL driver closes the trunk. In the future, Audi hopes to expand the service to allow owners to not only receive packages, but to also send items from their car.
This service joins a similar project being tested by Volvo. Known as Roam Delivery, this service essentially delivers take-out food to owners regardless of where their car is located. Last November, we also reported that Volvo was working with DHL to launch a package delivery service, similar to Audi’s.
