GM teases more 2016 Chevy Camaro bits ahead of May debut

General Motors is keeping the stream of 2016 Chevrolet Camaro teasers flowing by showing off two new bits.

The two new photos arguably give us the clearest look yet of the next-gen muscle car. Ed Welburn, GM’s vice president of Global Design, likens the new look to the Camaro going to the gym and coming out with a “lithe, more athletic physique for the sixth generation.”

Now, a close-up of just the trunk lid and hood aren’t completely indicative of the Camaro’s new look. But from what we can see, it’s definitely more aggressive than the outgoing model. There’s a new spoiler and what seems to be a sharper tail light design, along with a hood that is reminiscent of the C7 Corvette.

Handout, GM

So far, we already know the 2016 Camaro will be fitted with a 6.2-litre V8 engine, while a turbocharged four-cylinder is rumoured to be optional.

The new Camaro is said to be stiffer and lighter than the current car thanks to its new underpinnings – it will be based on the same aluminum-intensive Alpha platform as the one found in the Cadillac ATS and CTS. GM’s Magnetic Ride Control will also be available on SS models for the first time.

Look for the 2016 Chevy Camaro to make its full debut on May 16 in Detroit.
