Mercedes-Benz has refreshed one of its most iconic models for 2016.
The biggest news is the addition of the company’s new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 under the hood. Based on the same engine found in the slinky Mercedes-AMG GT, it’s rated at 416 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque in the base G500.

For 2016, the G63 AMG gets a sizeable power bump from 536 horsepower to 563. If that’s not enough kick, Mercedes will continue to offer the V12-powered G65 AMG, pumping out 621 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft. of torque. There’s also a turbodiesel V6 with 245 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque under the hood of the G350d, but that model isn’t available in North America – and likely won’t be anytime soon.
The rest of the G-Class’ improvements include reprogrammed stability control, traction control and ABS systems, as well as revisions inside to the instrument cluster. Outside, the G350d and G500 see restyled bumpers and wheel arches. There are also a bunch of eye-grabbing colours available for 2016, including Alien Green and Galactic Beam.
Look for the 2016 G500, G63 and G65 AMG to hit dealers this November.
