Ford is recalling 12,300 copies of the 2015 F-150 over an improperly attached part.
The issue in question lies with the truck’s upper I-shaft. Ford says the part could’ve been improperly riveted, causing it to potentially fall off. If this happens, the truck’s steering could be compromised, increasing the risk of a crash. No crashes or injuries have been linked to the recall, but in one case, Ford says one owner reported a loss of steering.
The Detroit News reports a total of 12,328 trucks are affected. Of those, 8,963 are in the U.S., while 3,348 are in Canada and 17 are located in Mexico. As part of its aluminum-intensive body and chassis, the 2015 F-150 use rivets instead of spot welds, contributing to an overall weight reduction of 700 pounds.
This is the second recall affecting the Ford F-150 in the span of a month. In April, Ford called back 91 F-150s over an underbody heat shield that could’ve been either incorrectly installed or outright missing, leading to the risk of a fire. In the U.S., 73 F-150s were affected, while 18 were in Canada.
