David Brown Automotive, the company behind the Speedback GT, is headed to North America.
Set for a debut at The Quail at Pebble Beach this summer, the Speedback GT harkens back to the days of coachbuilt cars – where buyers could opt for custom sheet metal over a car chassis of their choosing.
The Speedback GT wears sheet metal seemingly inspired by the Aston Martin DB5 and Jaguar E-Type. If not as striking as the DB5 and E-Type, the overall look works, especially coupled with the splashes of wood trim and modern touches inside.
Despite the retro looks, the Speedback GT is effectively a Jaguar XKR under the hood. It’s powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre V8, pumping out 503 horsepower and 461 lb.-ft. of torque. The Speedback GT sprints from zero-to-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, before topping out at about 250 km/h.
If the Speedback GT is on your wish list, prepare to shell out at least $753,000. That’s a hefty chunk of change for a Jaguar XKR. Or, you could pick up a genuine Aston Martin DB5 for roughly the same price.
