Porsche has taken the wraps off its latest race-ready 911.
Based on the already extreme 911 GT3 RS, the GT3 R sees a whole host of modifications to prepare it for race track duties. Its 4.0-litre flat-six pumps out 500 horsepower and is pared to a six-speed sequential manual transmission controlled through a set of paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel.
As with many race cars of its kind, the GT3 R goes on an extensive diet. Aluminum used throughout the chassis, as well as polycarbonate windows and a body mostly made up of carbon fibre contribute to significant weight savings over the road-going GT3 RS, but Porsche didn’t give any specific figures.
The GT3 R gains a set of ventilated and grooved disc brakes all around, with six-piston aluminum monoblock calipers up front and four-piston calipers in the rear. And because it’s a race car after all, there’s a slew of aerodynamic enhancements, most notably a rear wing measuring more than six feet wide.
